Senator Martin always welcomes the opportunity to recognize the outstanding accomplishments of the people of Pickens County.  It may be recognition at retirement, a graduation, a birthday milestone, or exceptional achievement.  Senator Martin will be happy to consider presenting a Senate Certificate of Recognition to recognize such individuals.  He is also happy to send congratulatory letters when requested to do so.  Send an e-mail with the necessary information about the person to Senator Martin's office, larrymartin@scsenate.gov and he will respond to each request.

The Senator is often asked to recommend someone for recognition by the Governor for the Order of the Palmetto or the Order of the Silver Crescent.  These two awards are the highest civilian awards that can be made to a South Carolinian by the Governor.  The Governor has a committee that screens requests for these awards.  If you would like to submit a name to be considered for a Governor's award, please send Sen. Martin an e-mail with the necessary information about the person to larrymartin@scsenate.gov and he will respond to each request.

The following provides more details concerning the Governor's awards and certificates:

Order of the Palmetto:  The Order of the Palmetto is the state’s highest civilian honor awarded for extraordinary lifetime achievement and service to the state and nation.  It is a once-in-a-lifetime achievement and previous recipients are not eligible.

Order of the Silver Crescent:  The Order of the Silver Crescent is awarded to residents of South Carolina for exemplary performance, contribution and achievement within the community.  It is the state’s highest award for volunteer and/or community service.

Governor’s Certificates:  Governor’s Certificates are awarded to individuals and/or groups for specific outstanding accomplishments.
